ABOUT GRETCHEN
Being active and athletic have been ingrained in me from a very young age. When I was a toddler my family doctor told my parents to enroll me in every sport possible to try and get me to expend some of my “excess energy”. Soccer became my love at the age of six. Playing competitively on traveling teams throughout high school and into my freshman year of college, soccer was “it” for me. Unfortunately, I didn’t understand and didn’t have coaches who prioritized strength training and conditioning to keep their athletes safe. As a result, I suffered three torn ACL’s, and a broken femur. After tearing my ACL for the third time, I was told that the only way to fix it was another two surgeries, and at the time I couldn’t imagine going through all of the rehab and pain again times two. My doctor told me that with all of the cartilage and ligament damage done to my knee I would never be able to play sports or run again. Fast forward three months and a friend of the family told me I should try this thing called CrossFit, because it allows a person to be as competitive as you wanted to be and was constantly varied. Northstate was closest to my home so I stopped there and signed up for the next On-Ramp. The rest is history. My body has never felt better and I have been able to share my love and passion with my Northstate family. This sport has allowed me to participate and thrive in the outdoor activities I love so much, and share my love of service to others, helping them become the healthiest, fittest versions of themselves.
